… And You Can Control Your Career, Too!

Here’s why my services aren’t work for me, they reward me. And you. Here’s why I love my job.
I was working with a CFO. This man has been a successful CFO for years and for several companies. He knows what he’s doing, and he knows how to fix companies.
But when we first talked, and I asked him about his value proposition, he rambled on for about ten minutes about his experience, his thoughts on the industry, and various frustrating interviews that he’d had.
During that first conversation, when I tried to get him back on track, and asked him follow-up questions to try to help him clarify his value proposition, he again went on for ten minutes about the same issues: years of experience, the industry, and various frustrating interviews.
And he wondered why he was being ignored left and right.
“Am I too old?” he asked.
Nope.
I sent him a questionnaire to get more details about his leadership experience. Then we had a job search strategy call.
At one point shortly into our collaboration he asked me if we should add something to his resume. So, I asked him back: “Can you prove to me that it deserves to be on your resume?” And he immediately came out with the impact and results that supported his request.
Before we started working together the CFO had no idea how to demonstrate why he deserves the job. Your proof of deserving any leadership position—with the salary, the benefits, the work culture—is crucial now, because boards and executive hiring teams want to know the results that they will be you paying for. Executive hiring is no longer based on skills and responsibilities alone.
Now the CFO knows exactly how to prove his point. And he got there in just a few days.
That was priceless. Like I said, I love my job.
