The Tale of a Stressed Job Hunter

By Soozy G. Miller, CPRW, CDCC, CDP

In 2025 I worked with a Chief Operations Officer. This was through an agency.

She was a $500K salary kind of executive. Very talented.  A natural leader.

Her resume was jam-packed full of accomplishments in all parts of business.

When we started working together, she told me, “I’m a Jack of all trades. I have done and can do anything.” Her only objective in finding a job was to make as much money as possible in as short a time as possible. This is not a very inspirational goal, but I’m here to help.

She told me that she was going on vacation soon, to an exotic location. There would be no phones or internet where she was going.

So, her plan was to apply to 5 companies on LinkedIn, go away on vacation, and when she came back she expected that there would be 3-4 job offers waiting for her in her email. She didn’t expect all 5 to have positions, but she was sure that at least 3 would.

She applied to all 5, and within seconds was rejected for all 5.

Then she did what a lot of normal, stressed adult do. She panicked. She still had a few days before she was going away, so she quadrupled down. She started to do what recruiters call Spray & Pray. She mass applied everywhere. Click, click, click, click click... She uploaded her resume to every possible position and mass emailed her resume to dozens of recruiters.

Hundreds of these. She was beside herself. She left for vacation very sad and even more stressed.

When she came back from vacation we met once or twice to review her situation. She was not happy.

Then she did not talk to me for 3-4 months.

When she reconnected with me, she said that she had been in the job search six months without any offers and barely any interviews, she was not satisfied and said that she wanted another advisor.

I’m not going to go in to all the ways I tried to help her, though they were numerous.

This is a cautionary tale. I do not want you to have to go through what she went through. Even if you are not an executive, the above stress is completely avoidable. My clients land within an average of 2 months.

Contact me to avoid all this unnecessary stress.
